Bearing Preload and Positioning Device

The illustrated device positions a bearing squarely in the bearing bore, locking outer and inner races in desired position with bearing pre-load provided by wave washer.

In Fig. 1, base casting with a bearing bore is clamped in holding fixture. With bearing 3 positioned on arbor 4 insert guide shaft 5 into post 6 of the holding fixture. Push downward until stud 7 is aligned with slot 8 on post 6. Turn finger 9 tight to lock bearing preload, positioner device and holding fixture together.

Bearing preload is set by compressing wave washer 10 to a predetermined dimension and locking it into place using caller 13.

The three bearing fingers 14 on sleeve 15 are slightly smaller in diameter than the bearing outside diameter to permit application of an adhesive to the space between bearing 3 and bore 12. After adhesive has cured, the preload and positioner device is removed.
