Abstract

In a compound document data stream allowing for the interchange of resource objects, text, graphics, image and the like, as well as resource data such as fonts and color tables, a function designating a resource group as the active resource group for the duration of an active state (e.g., document, page, overlay or data object) is provided. Resources available for reference by the data stream process are affected by the function which permits modifications such as add an identified resource group to the current inline library, replace identically named resources in the inline library with the named resources in the identified resource group, or nullify all previous modifications to the inline library. Complete replacement of the current inline library is not provided by the function.

Retention of Activated Resources in a Data Stream Processing System

In a compound document data stream allowing for the interchange of resource objects, text, graphics, image and the like, as well as resource data such as fonts and color tables, a function designating a resource group as the active resource group for the duration of an active state (e.g., document, page, overlay or data object) is provided. Resources available for reference by the data stream process are affected by the function which permits modifications such as add an identified resource group to the current inline library, replace identically named resources in the inline library with the named resources in the identified resource group, or nullify all previous modifications to the inline library. Complete replacement of the current inline library is not provided by the function.

To facilitate management of activated resources, a Resource Retention triplet function is provided that can be used to qualify a resource group in a compound document data stream. The Resource Retention triplet is added to the Begin Resource Group (BRG) structured field when specification of how the resource group is to be managed when activated by a data stream process is required. If the Resource Retention triplet occurs on the Begin structured field with a value of X'00', the resource group is added to the current inline library of resource groups. A value of X'01' indicates that the resource group is to replace a...
