Abstract

The molded-in push/pull tab (1) will allow simultaneous cable (2) and connector (3) extraction in a linear direction (no canting) from a cable receptacle or header (not shown). The cable is not used as an extraction device, so it will not place a side force or load on the IDC cable strain relief.

Insulation Displacement Connection (IDC) with Push/Pull Tab on the Strain Relief

The molded-in push/pull tab (1) will allow simultaneous cable (2) and connector (3) extraction in a linear direction (no canting) from a cable receptacle or header (not shown). The cable is not used as an extraction device, so it will not place a side force or load on the IDC cable strain relief.

The height and width of the push/pull tab can be varied to match the size of the connector based on function and location within the machine.

This application covers IDC cables and connectors destined for use on zero insertion force (ZIF) connectors using a retention bump (5) form of latching mechanism.
