Abstract

This invention relates to a method for controlling a staged storage subsystem with selectable resources. The staged storage subsystem includes a fast store, a slow store, and an interface coupling the stores to an information source and sink. The method steps comprise (a) associating logical store requirements of data access with a data set; (b) binding the logical store and the physical stores; (c) encoding the logical storage requirements as a function of resources; (d) threshold setting as a function of resource requirements; and (e) optimizing an access request as a function of thresholding and logical storage requirements.

The staged storage subsystem includes a fast store, a slow store, and an interface coupling the stores to an information source and sink. The method steps comprise (a) associating logical store requirements of data access with a data set; (b) binding the logical store and the physical stores;
(c) encoding the logical storage requirements as a function of resources; (d) threshold setting as a function of resource requirements; and (e) optimizing an access request as a function of thresholding and logical storage requirements.
