Abstract

Disclosed is a method to unstaple one or more documents from a set of documents in a library. The staple relationship logically ties two otherwise discrete, independently defined documents together. This relationship is a one-to-one relation where the attaching document can be referred to as the "stapler" and the receiving document can be referred to as the "staplee". A "stapler" may be attached to a set of "staplees". A "staplee" may be attached by a set of "staplers". A user may wish to removed one or more "staplers" from a set of "staplees".

Unstaple one or More Documents from a Set of Documents

Disclosed is a method to unstaple one or more documents from a set of documents in a library. The staple relationship logically ties two otherwise discrete, independently defined documents together. This relationship is a one- to-one relation where the attaching document can be referred to as the "stapler" and the receiving document can be referred to as the "staplee". A "stapler" may be attached to a set of "staplees". A "staplee" may be attached by a set of "staplers". A user may wish to removed one or more "staplers" from a set of "staplees".

The method described in this disclosure enables a user to remove one or more "staplers" from a set of "staplees" with one request. The remove-request includes a set of library-identifier parameters for each "staplee" and "stapler" involved. The request includes a pairing for each "staplee" and "stapler" removal. The library-server processes the remove-request as follows:

FOR each document identified in the remove-request DO

FOR each "stapler" specified with this "staplee" DO

IF the user has the proper authority to remove this "stapler" THEN remove this "stapler" document from this "staplee" END IF

END FOR

END FOR

The advantage of this method is to provide the user with a simple method to remove one or more "stapler" documents from a set of "staplee" documents. This capability can be particularly useful in managing the library in an efficient, timely manner.
