Iconic Fields

Provided is a technique which allows larger information density for menus and form-like panels in order to overcome the deficiencies of current display techniques.

The user is provided with conventional function and user interface techniques for entry, list, graphic or other types of fields. The function and user interface is enhanced by the following: -- Allow fields to be represented via icons or other graphic forms

-- Allow each field to be selected, and when selected to "open" and reveal the field and its content -- Deselection of the field closes the field/content and restores the icon

The user can select via mouse, keyboard, or other device in an automatic manner, i.e., "touching" the icon which opens the field. The user can select more than one field to be opened. In some cases, the user may be able to enter data or make selections directly on the field's icon/graphic.

The benefits to the user include new function, improved flexibility, increased screen space and usability, and reduced navigation due to more densely populated menus.
