This addresses the difficulties encountered when trying to locate the SCSI bus terminating resistors in a device of small physical size. They must be close to the SCSI connector, yet located away from other components and confined areas so as to be easily removable.

The figure illustrates an SCSI connector 3 modified to accommodate pluggable terminator resistors 2. This addresses the difficulties encountered when trying to locate the SCSI bus terminating resistors in a device of small physical size. They must be close to the SCSI connector, yet located away from other components and confined areas so as to be easily removable.

By using the body of the connector 3 as a receptacle for pluggable terminator resistors 2, they are easily removed with virtually no stub length created. In the figure, sockets 1 for the terminators 2 are shown to be above a connector housing 3, although they could be just as effectively located below the housing 3. A terminating resistor network 2 is shown to be a ten-pin package, but this also is flexible. Connector housing 3 is based upon the standard 50-pin design. Again, many different styles of connectors exist, and many could be used as a base for this part. The connections between the terminating resistors 2 and signal lines 4 are either internal or external. Internal connections simplify the soldering of this connector, while external connections increase the flexibility of the part.
