Low Profile Friction Hub

The figure illustrates a low profile friction hub that secures a disk using pressure with finger clamps onto a hub of testing gear. This is in marked contrast to sandwiching the disk between two surfaces at the inner diameter.

The hub comprises a hub body 1 and three finger clamps 2. Hub body 1 is used to accurately locate a disk 3 and a spindle 4. When disk 3 is positioned on body 1, finger clamps 2 deflect towards the inner diameter of disk 3. This deflection causes clamps 2 to apply pressure to secure disk 3 during low speed operation. Finger clamps 2 protrude less than 1 mm above disk 3 in the clamped position.
