Improved Load Beam Formed Area Design

The figure illustrates a load beam formed area design with altered geometry of the suspension legs. This provides very low suspension resonant response to servo motion. New hard file designs require minimum access time and maximum storage capacity. This demands that the head/suspension resonant response be minimized. The disclosed design provides this response minimization.

Prior suspension designs comprise two formed area legs with uniform widths and a gram load form which is generally in the central part of the formed area and requires tight location control.

The figure shows that for this design, the two formed area legs 1 have a width 4 that decreases linearly from a mount block or arm end 2 to the point of load application 3. The width 4 of legs 1 is defined such that a uniform stress is present on the legs when the gram load is applied.
