Abstract

A data structure is described that provides a common way for applications to: (1) specify that an operator initiated response to a meeting notice is required, (2) interchange and process the response required indicator, (3) create, change or delete the response required structure from a remote terminal or system using communications protocol, (4) use the response indicator to determine if this item needs to be looked at by a receiving individual or system, and (5) support an automatic response from individuals invited to a meeting. This structure provides fields for like or unlike calendar products to interchange a response indicator. The response indicator indicates that a response from an operator is required for an invitation to a meeting.

Response Required Data Structure for Information Interchange in an Office Network

Users may establish a way (via algorithm) to send an automatic response with their meeting status depending on whether they are or aren't busy at the selected time. They can also use the structure to indicate that the item just received requires an operator- initiated response. In this instance the user is obligated to respond with a specific operator-initiated message. The structure is also a common way to store the Response Required indicator. The indicator can then be accessed with an algorithm that reveals the indicator to the calendar user. In addition to interchange support, the structure, in conjunction with communications commands, prov...
