Abstract

A technique is described whereby insertion of optional circuit cards into a personal computer is simplified through the use of a bus extender. A slot cover is used in place of a solid cover so that removal of the solid cover is unnecessary for the insertion of optional circuit cards. Computer frame 10, as shown in the figure, is designed with frame slots 11 so that option cards 12 may be inserted or removed by the operator, by sliding option card 12 through frame slot 11, without the need to remove cover 13. Bus extender 14 is first plugged into connector 15, which in turn is fixed to system board 16. Bus extender 14 is held in place by means of clip holders 17. Slots 11 have provision to hold option cards 12, after insertion is made into connector 18 of bus extender 14.
