Abstract

In the IBM PC 3270 Emulation Program there are two fields: an Alternate Field and a 3270 Field. Applications that run in the Alternate Field must run on DOS and be compatible with the IBM PC 3270 Emulation Program. Therefore, the key definitions need to fit that environment. When the other field, 3270 Field, is active the key definitions need to be tailored to its 3270 environment (PF keys, etc.). When only one remapping of keys is available, only one field has key definitions tailored to it. The other field is stuck with unusable key definitions. In accordance with the new method, the IBM PC 3270 Emulation Program provides two types of remapping of keys. The first one is the Global Remap. It will remap the keys for all applications using BIOS or DOS to obtain keys. The second type of remapping is the 3270 Remap.

Method for Remapping of Keys in the IBM PC 3270 Emulation Program

It is a menu option chosen when the operator configures the IBM PC 3270 Emulation Program. The key definitions provided will be used only in the 3270 Field. These two remaps, Global and 3270, give the operator the ability to remap the Alternate Field keys using the Global Remap, and to remap the 3270 Field using the 3270 Remap.
