Abstract

A method is described for use in the IBM PC 3270 Emulation Program which permits an operator naming and permanently saving a deferred print file. If an operator wishes to use the print-to-disk function, and selects the Print to Disk option of the 3270 Printer Setup menu during Communication Profile Tasks, he must specify the 3270 Print to Disk file name each time he enters the Communicate Task. The file name is specified in Request Tasks, and changes made in Request Tasks are not stored on the disk (they are temporary). In accordance with the new method on the PC Network 3270 Printer Setup menu is changed to prompt for a 3270 Print to Disk file name if Disk is specified. When prompted for a file name, the operator can either cancel the prompt or enter a 3270 Print to Disk file name.

When prompted for a file name, the operator can either cancel the prompt or enter a 3270 Print to Disk file name. If a file name was previously specified, it will display as the current default for the 3270 Print to Disk file name. If the operator enters a file name at this time, it will be saved on diskette. The operator is relieved of the necessity of specifying the 3270 Print to Disk file name each time he enters the Communicate Task. He only needs to specify it once in Communication Profile Tasks. This is extremely useful for customers doing a large amount of host printing, because if they ever forget to specify the deferred print file name, they must restart the entire host print job, which is both tedious and time consuming. The operator retains the option of...
