Abstract

A technique is described whereby a computer software program called "Color Text" is designed to be used as a text editor for the electronic media, such as with the IBM Personal Computer Storyboard program. "Color Text" enhances presentations by using multiple color, ASCII graphics, and other functions so as to create images with greater visual impact than is possible with conventional text. The editor is compatible with conventional text files allowing greater enhancement of existing text. Help, library and menu screens provide compatibility with other software design tools, such as providing the ability to box-draw ASCII graphics in color. "Color Text" provides the following capabilities: 1. Full screen editing in full color: 16 foreground and 8 background colors are all available on the same screen at the same time.

"Color Text" provides the following capabilities: 1. Full screen editing in full color: 16 foreground and 8 background colors are all available on the same screen at the same time. The editor provides for block mark, overlay, erase, uppercase and lowercase with correct color restoration, as well as insert, delete and erase to the end of the line. A block color function to quickly color an area is also provided. 2. Image save and recall is organized into "filesets". Each screen image is a color file, compatible with BASIC (BSAVE). Menu options allow the creation of "b/w text" (black/white) file equivalents of the screen image (for DOS "PRINT" compatibility) and restoring ASCII text to the current color "template". It is compatible with conventional spelling checkers, Personal Editor, etc. 3. ASCII graphics: The ability to box-draw, as used in Picture Maker of the PC Storyboard program and ASCII character entry, is available in two keystrokes. A unique "ASCII read" is provided to determine the type of character...
