Abstract

This plate is in turn held in place by the enclosure cover. System locking and operational indication functions are provided. Also, a bezel assembly is described for vacant drive unit slots. bezel assembly is held in place by the detachable plate and is configured to provide, by means of a spring plate, a grounded surface for shielding to minimize radiated electromagnetic interference and a spring-biasing force to hold a tray assembly in place. In some existing personal computers (PCs), a pair of plates are used that are attached by means of screws to hold in place each magnetic media drive unit, which also is mounted by means of rails operating in slots in a framework structure. The arrangement disclosed herein has the advantage of providing a single part, which is held in place by the cover assembly, instead of four small plates attached by screws. This saves assembly time both in the manufacture of the machine and in field service or field installation of a drive option. In addition, an attractive bezel around the drives is provided. In the drawings, Fig. 1 is a partial right sectional view of the machine, showing the electromagnetic devices, the detachable plate, and associated structural components. the machine showing the same components and lock and indicator components. A pair of electromechanical devices 1, such as magnetic media drive units, equipped with side rails 2, are inserted in slots 3 in supporting structures 4. The inward motions of these devices 1 are stopped by the contact of these side rails 2 against the ends 5 of slots 3. A detachable plate 6 is subsequently slid downward in front of the ends 7 of side rails 2.

This plate 6, which is basically an inverted U-shaped structure through which the front portions 8 of devices 1 extend, includes hook surfaces 9, which extend around tabs 10 of supporting structure 4, and tabs 11, which extend behind a raised portion 12 of framework structure 13, so that its horizontal motion is restrained when it is thus installed. Cover assembly 14 is subsequently installed by pushing toward the rear of the machine so that its vertical motion is restrained by a series of notches 15 operating on the front edge of framework structure 16, and is held in place by screws (not shown).
