Abstract

A copy sheet finisher has the capability of sending single copy sheets to a small-size exit tray or multi-copy sheet sets stapled or unstapled to a large exit pocket. To feed sheets into the finisher entry system 2, the copier exit rolls 1 assume position A. Sheets approach the finisher entry system copy side up or copy side down depending on the characteristics of the copier and if the sheets are duplexed or not. For correct orientation to facilitate collating in either the accumulator 3 or the exit pocket 4, sheets can be turned over in flipper 5. After being processed through the flipper/entry system, exit pocket gate 6 diverts the sheets either up to the exit pocket or down into the accumulator 3. The flipper in this location allows for face- up copy or collated copy in the exit pocket depending upon user preference.

Finisher

As the sheets are diverted to the accumulator 3, they are accumulated in groups corresponding to the set size of the originals. As they accumulate, each sheet is aligned leftward against paper gate 11 and forward to a front reference. The leading front corner of the sheets lies in the jaws of a stitcher as the sheets are accumulated and aligned. After a set is complete, a stitch is placed in the set, if desired, and a cam motor turns on to drop the eject rolls 10 and raise the paper gate 11. The eject rolls are energized to drive the stitched or unstitched set out into the offsetting stacker 9. The cam then restores the system before the...
