Abstract

A memory typewriter produces underlining of existing text by use of the space bar when a continuous underscore mode is activated and scrolls to the right by the use of a right arrow key without any underscore even when the underscore mode is activated. A memory typewriter has existing text underlined by use of the space bar when the typewriter is in its continuous underscore mode. The typewriter has a cursor advanced over a displayed text line to the right without underscoring by the right arrow key. Thus, text is not underscored even if the continuous underscore mode is activated when the right arrow key is used to scroll over the text.

Use of Space Bar for Underlining and Right Arrow Key for Scrolling Over Text of a Memory Typewriter

Therefore, each word can be underlined without the spaces being underlined when the typewriter is in its continuous mode by using the space bar to advance the cursor over each character but using the right arrow key to advance the cursor over each space.
