Abstract

The figure illustrates a pallet which reduces exposure to leakage of toxic or corrosive virgin and waste chemicals into the workplace and/or environment from drummed chemicals on pallets. This thereby reduces the possibility of accidental personal chemical contact and migration of chemicals into the environment. The drummed chemical pallet holder, as shown in the figure, is made of carbon steel and coated with a chemical-resistant coating. It will contain the full volume of 1-1/2 drums of chemical or a minimum 82.5 gallons. A pallet of drummed chemicals will be set onto the pallet holder and will be "banded" to the pallet holder. The spill contained pallet of drummed chemicals may then be transported and staged or stored until the need arises for chemical usage.

Pallet Holder Spill Containment

The figure illustrates a pallet which reduces exposure to leakage of toxic or corrosive virgin and waste chemicals into the workplace and/or environment from drummed chemicals on pallets. This thereby reduces the possibility of accidental personal chemical contact and migration of chemicals into the environment. The drummed chemical pallet holder, as shown in the figure, is made of carbon steel and coated with a chemical-resistant coating. It will contain the full volume of 1- 1/2 drums of chemical or a minimum 82.5 gallons. A pallet of drummed chemicals will be set onto the pallet holder and will be "banded" to the pallet holder. The spill contained pallet of drummed chemicals may then be transported and staged or stored until the need arises for chemical usage. It is presumed that only toxics, corrosives and environmentally sensitive compounds will utilize this type of spill containment. The pallet holder may be picked up by a fork truck or hand pallet truck from any of the four sides. If additional stability is desired for partially loaded drums, fork trucks may use the "tubes" 11 on the edges for pickup. If the tubes' spacing is too wide for a particular fork truck's forks, welded metal loops may be attached to the underside of the pallet holder or tubes of the right spacing may be used. Additional spill containment volume, if required, can be obtained by welding closed the ends of any unused tubes 11 and drilling holes through...
