Abstract

This article describes a tray and bezel assembly for mounting a single half-high floppy disk drive in an IBM PC XT space capable of accommodating two such drives. (Image Omitted) Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a sheet metal tray which is adapted for thermally attaching a plastic blank bezel by means of hot upset lugs located on the bezel. The metal tray is capable of mounting a half-high hard file in a higher level subassembly. This subassembly is then mechanically attached to a half-high drive, shown in perspective in Fig. 2, using two sheet metal side plates serving as the connectors. This subassembly can now be inserted in the machine frame and becomes a model type.

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a sheet metal tray which is adapted for thermally attaching a plastic blank bezel by means of hot upset lugs located on the bezel. The metal tray is capable of mounting a half-high hard file in a higher level subassembly. This subassembly is then mechanically attached to a half-high drive, shown in perspective in Fig. 2, using two sheet metal side plates serving as the connectors. This subassembly can now be inserted in the machine frame and becomes a model type. If, at some future date, it is desired to add another half-high drive to the existing half-high drive, the tray subassembly is disconnected and replaced by another drive assembly and becomes an alternate model. The same side plate is used for either a drive/blank combination or a dual drive combination, and maintains EM shielding and grounding system requirements.
