Abstract

A technique is described whereby a run length limited (RLL) code provides an encoder with the ability to convert unconstrained data strings into (1,4) constrained strings at the rate of 3/5. The decoder recovers the original data strings and its error propagation is limited. One error in the encoded string can result in no more than six errors in the decoded data.
