Abstract

This process solves a software configuration management problem of ensuring the integrity of the source members, object files, listing files, loader directives and load modules of large software systems in an accurate and timely manner. The load modules, which are lab tested, are automatically captured and do not have to be saved by manual methods. Automated Load Components Capture (ALCC) is a software configuration management technique which ensures the successful capture of all the components required to recreate a software system. A common problem for large software development projects is the failure to capture all of the source code, object files, listing files, loader directives and load modules which define the system.

The ALCC process extends the state-of-the art methods for automatically guaranteeing the integrity of these files by ensuring that all components of the software system, from source code to load modules, are automatically captured. This technique offers a tremendous production cost savings over comparable manual methods. The figure illustrates the relationship of the ALCC library hierarchy and promotion scheme and the component capture technique. Program development occurs at the Development Library level.
