Abstract

The device is effective for providing a controlled and selected skew (yaw) motion of an element, such as magnetic head h, about a center line or axis X-X of the element for testing the properties of the element in various skewed positions. Head h is mounted with respect to slide plate 2 by means of head loader 1 using hole pattern B for fixedly and properly locating head loader 1 on plate 2. Lower plate L is fixed on slide 3 by means of which plates 1 and 2 may be moved normally of center line X-X and parallel to center line Y-Y. Roller bearings J and K are provided between lower plate L and upper plate A and provide rolling contact to prevent contamination from particles generated by sliding surfaces. The crossed roller bearings J provide rotational accuracy and horizontal rollers K flatness.

The roller spacing is maintained using a brass separator/locator I. This provides optimum load area for the quantity of rollers used.

Indexing is accomplished using a rack gear M bent along the outer diameter of the lower bearing plate L. This rack M meshes with a pinion gear D driven through a gear box C connected to the upper bearing plate A.
