Abstract

This article describes a bracket to mount a variety of disk drive configurations in the PC XT space originally provided for a single drive form factor with suitable rigid support of all drives and enhanced electrical grounding properties. The mounting bracket disclosed herein serves as a universal attachment device for all direct access storage device (DASD) commodity assemblies to an unaltered PC XT base frame assembly as well as cover assembly. An exterior mounting method is used to accomplish this task, as shown in Fig. 1. This method also enables a customer to update any existing PC XT model, if desired, via a retro-fit option kit. (Image Omitted) Fig. 2 is a side view of the mounting bracket installation.

Mounting Bracket for Attachment of Direct Access Storage Device Assembly Units in a PC XT

Fig. 2 is a side view of the mounting bracket installation. The mounting bracket has a projection that hooks into the PC XT frame and is held in place after installation by an installation tab having a tab clip. The design of the mounting bracket and attachment of the two screw fasteners secures the various DASD assemblies in a locked position for all three axes, as shown in Fig. 2. In addition, the various bracket features assist in providing structural support for the assembled DASD units setting up a resistance to shear forces in all axes and assist the manufacturing process. Additional grounding points for the DASD assembly PC XT frame are provided by the various bracket features. The bracket also maintains existing system...
