Abstract

An identifier code is applied to recorded musical works so that the broadcasts of the work may be detected and/or counted by a computer which continuously scans for such codes. The identifier may be a digital code applied to digital broadcasts or may be analog --for example, a distinct inaudible phase signature applied to a small segment of each song or other work. Amplitude coding and amplitude quantization are other contemplated identifier approaches. The code may be implemented to provide an audible or non-audible signal for detection.
