Abstract

A Hall effect device is provided with a signal conditioning circuit to produce a TTL (transistor-transistor logic) compatible digital output and is positioned to monitor a rotating ring magnet. The magnet has multiple sets of poles facing radially outward. The ring magnet is attached to the flower rotor shaft between the motor and the scroll. The Hall effect device and its signal conditioning circuitry are encased in a small box-like package. The package is mounted on a bracket which, in turn, is mounted to the blower base plate. A Hall effect device is a semiconductor material that produces a voltage proportional to the strength of an applied magnetic flux. When monitoring a rotating multi-poled magnet it will produce a pulsed output.

The Hall effect device and its signal conditioning circuitry are encased in a small box-like package. The package is mounted on a bracket which, in turn, is mounted to the blower base plate. A Hall effect device is a semiconductor material that produces a voltage proportional to the strength of an applied magnetic flux. When monitoring a rotating multi-poled magnet it will produce a pulsed output. This output will be conditioned within the package so that it will operate as a switch with functional setpoints. As shown in the drawing, the package is mounted outside the blower motor housing in a cool environment. This will improve the reliability of the Hall effect device since it is adversely affected by high temperatures. The package is adaptable to any blower of this type since the height of the bracket can be changed. The package can be developed and manufactured by sensor specialists instead of blower vendors, which also improves its reliability.
