Abstract

A loading device feeds leadless chip carriers and other surface-mounted devices to automatic component-mounting equipment in a precise, controlled manner. The device works in the following manner. The pallet 1 consists of a universal base 2 and interchangeable templates 3. The templates 3 have machined cavities 4 in which the components (not shown) are manually placed. The correct location and orientation for the devices to be mounted is achieved through the use of overlays (not shown) as assembly aids for the different parts. The pallet system uses a variety of uniquely spaced locating pins and holes to prevent the possibility of using an incorrect template. The entire pallet system is designed to be electrically conductive to avoid electrostatic discharge damage to components.
