Abstract

A single printer function pack has software to enable the single function pack to support three different printers including both impact and non-impact printers. Each of three different printers has a different software protocol. A single function pack has software to interrogate the printers via an identify command and to output via the serial port the appropriate printer protocol. The single function pack can support impact printers of both 16 characters per second (CPS) and 30 CPS and a non-impact QUIETWRITER printer. The flow chart shows the interrogation by the software and the output via the serial port to the appropriate printer.
