Abstract

An optical sensor is described which holds the emitter and receiver in one molded plastic block that can be snapped into place without the need of fasteners. Optical block 10 (Fig. 1) consists of emitter 11 and receiver 12 molded into a plastic block at angles having the optical path coinciding at the paper edge. Leads 13 provide electrical connections. Sensor block 10 also contains molded bottom tang 14 and snap tab 15. For installation (Fig. 2) sensor block 10 is snapped tightly into bracket 16 which contains cut-outs to accept bottom tang 14 and snap tab 15. Bracket 16 can be welded into copier/printer body plate 17. A simpler manufacturing process and an easier replacement in the customer's office can thus be attained.
