Abstract

A protector for a smoke detector mounted underneath a raised floor is disclosed. Fig. 1 shows smoke detector 1 mounted on raised floor frame 3. Fig. 2 shows protector 2 covering smoke detector 1. Protector 2 is made from a non-porous material, preferably aluminum. Protector 2 must be larger than smoke detector 1, and must be bent to conform to the lip on the raised floor frame 3. Preferably, the sides of protector 2 are braked downwardly. Once mounted, raised floor tiles 4 hold protector 2 in place. When water or other liquid is spilled on or applied to the floor, the liquid hits protector 2 and is directed away from smoke detector 1, preventing false alarms and/or damage due to shorting out smoke detector 1. The smoke detecting capabilities of smoke detector 1 are not adversely affected by protector 2.
