Abstract

Some data channels have a parallel bus that includes a data part and a tag part. The signal levels on the tag lines are raised and dropped to control the process of transferring data bytes on the data part of the bus. In some data processing systems, the lines at the sending end of the parallel bus are encoded in a serial frame, transmitted over a serial link, and then reconverted to rising and falling pulses at the receiving end of the parallel bus. At the sending end, circuits detect changes on the tag lines and start a frame sending operation. It is possible for two or more tag changes to occur at the sending end of the parallel bus while a preceding frame is being formed and transmitted on the serial link.
