Interactive Video Alignment Technique

This paper describes a method of identifying, classifying, and establishing the exact position coordinates of test points on an electric circuit substrate and the logging and storage of the position data in a computer under the control of an operator.

The identification of the test points of interest is deter- mined by the operator assessment of a video image using contemporary video equipment and other operation aids such as transparencies, low and high level magnification, computer software generated graphics, and a "mouse" manipulated cursor. The location coordinates, of the test sites of interest, are produced by the video electronic system by reading the position of the cursor which is under the control of the operator. The position data is properly formatted for storage in a computer.

The computer subsystem can contain any desirable position algorithm to make final coordinate determinations to a desired accuracy and to derive other circuit data as desired.

The disclosed technique contains two operating modes: manual where the exact cursor location is developed and stored in the computer, and automatic where the computer will calculate the exact center of gravity of the test site from the cursor coordi- nates by using a summation of moments algorithm built into electronic system.
