Self-Mounting Door

Door 2 is moved longitudinally (in direction A) through slot 4 in cover 1 thereby engaging its hinge pins 5 with cover 1 and pivotally (arrow 13) mounting door 2 on cover 1.

Door 2 is moved in direction A through slot 4 in cover 1 until hinge pins 5 are seated in pin receiving slots 6. Pins 5 thus pivotally mount door 2 with respect to cover 1. This allows door 2 to swing in direction B to close opening 20 in cover 1. Slots 6 are designed with snap fits for pins 5 which allow swinging of door 2 in direction B in a free swinging mode. Door catch 9 on door 2 engages one end of opening 10 and holds door 2 closed with a snap fit and also aligns door 2 in the vertical direction. Springs 3 which are self-mounting on bosses 8 are placed over bosses 8 with door 2 in closed position to provide a self-closing action and an open detent position of door 2. Flange 7 seals door opening 10 for air control.

The door construction thus provides self-alignment, self-mounting and self- sealing of door 2 and is low cost due to integration of parts and elimination of fasteners.
