Abstract

This article discloses an electrically controlled lift table to aid in transferring large rolls of magnetic tape media from a receiving area to an environmentally controlled storage facility or vice versa. The large rolls of media, termed "jumbos", are placed on tow carts upon being received. The lift table communicates with the tow cart and a storage facility stacker to aid in the transferring of the jumbo from the cart to the stacker, and subsequent storage in the environmentally controlled core media storage facility or vice versa, if transferring from the storage area to a media slitting area using the same tow cart. The table has a first and second vertical height control mechanism as well as a rotary mechanism for proper positioning of the roll of media onto the stacker, or from the stacker onto the tow cart.

Figure 1 shows lift table 10 with tow cart 21 positioned directly above and loaded with a jumbo roll of magnetic tape media 24. Initially, media roll 24 is placed on yoke members 23 having base member 22, which in turn, is placed on tow cart 21. Tow cart 21, loaded with roll 24, is then positioned on table 10 to begin the transfer process. Table 10 is provided with a central circular plate 16 having guide pins 17.
