Abstract

The stiffener bar 10 permits use of larger-size printed circuit cards 11. Heretofore, printed circuit cards have been limited to a size which could carry the weight of a certain number of components and still be run through a wave-soldering machine without deflecting. The stiffener bar 10 overcomes this limitation. The stiffener bar 10 is secured to the printed circuit card 11 by means of screws 12 and threaded bushings 13, the latter being soldered into the printed circuit card 11. The stiffener bar 10 may serve as a heat sink for various components, such as a power transistor 14, which are mounted on the printed circuit card 11. The stiffener bar 10 also provides a surface area upon which to mount additional components, such as a resistor 15.

Stiffener Bar for Printed Circuit Card

The stiffener bar 10 permits use of larger-size printed circuit cards 11. Heretofore, printed circuit cards have been limited to a size which could carry the weight of a certain number of components and still be run through a wave- soldering machine without deflecting. The stiffener bar 10 further provides a ground path to the frame of the equipment structure in which the printed circuit card is used.
