Abstract

Distinguishing hardware and software keys and assigning logical functions to each results in a reduction of keystrokes required to obtain printouts of monthly and daily schedules. In the area of software applications for computerized calendaring, there are usually two ways of displaying calendar data. One is to display a daily schedule for a specified day or days. The other is to display a monthly calendar wherein daily schedules for an entire month are presented in an abbreviated format. When a printout is needed for placement in a briefcase, carrying home or on trips, etc., most applications provide a method of printing out daily schedules, beginning at a specified date.

A reduction in keying can be realized by using the hardware feature of a terminal print key to print the monthly calendar display. It is unnecessary to assign the same function to a programmable key as well. Instead, the programmable key normally used for printing out the monthly display screen can be used to print daily schedules for the entire month, beginning with the first day in the month, and ending with the last day. With this approach, a month's...
