Abstract

A pulsed infrared source is used to determine if more than one floppy disc is in a diskette jacket. The pulsed infrared source is placed on one side of the jacket, while an infrared detector is placed on the other. Energy from the pulsed source will be sensed through the read/ write head window by the detector if there is one floppy disc in the diskette jacket. If there are two or more floppy discs in the file, the energy from the pulsed source will not be sensed by the detector.
