Abstract

A combination tool which is small and light in weight is provided for performing multiple functions. The tool is a modified air driver having a magnetic tip additionally supplied with two clamping jaws which are actuated in the horizontal and vertical directions, respectively, by an internal cam plate. Combining the air-driver function with two material pick-up jaws enables a reduction in assembly process time since fewer moves by the robotic manipulator are required to pick up and return multiple tools. In the figure, modified air driver 2 is held by driver carrier block 4 which also serves as a gripping surface for the robotic manipulator (not shown). Air driver 2 is provided at one end with a driver tip support collar 6 and magnetic tip 8.

Air driver 2 is provided at one end with a driver tip support collar 6 and magnetic tip 8. One clamping jaw 10 is provided adjacent driver carrier block 4, and the other 12 is provided adjacent magnetic tip 8. Air is input through port 14 to the internal air cylinder 16. Plunger 17 is connected to a cam plate 19 which terminates at the other end in bottom clamping jaw 10. Motion is provided to front clamping jaw 12 from plate 18 horizontally sliding in cam plate 19. Cam 20 is fixedly attached to cam plate 19 and extends through the cam surface in plate 18. Vertical motion from plunger 17 is imparted directly to lower jaw 10, and horizontal motion is coupled to the front jaw 12 by mechanical linkage.
