Abstract

Rendering a meeting scheduling application program single-key interaction reduces doubt surrounding meeting attendance and reduces message keying. Consider a computer scheduling application in which the organizer selects a tentative time for a meeting, and the attendees are notified through a 'note' facility. This facility electronically delivers a notice of where and when the meeting is to take place and the meeting purpose. The note facility can be used to reply to the notice, reroute the notice to an alternate attendee or terminal, etc. By providing the note facility with the ability to distinguish meeting notices from other notice types, and while a meeting notice is displayed, provide, in addition to reply and reroute, a 'confirm' function, the burden of confirmation and schedule updates is lessened.

Calendar Event Confirmation

This function can be invoked with a programmable key. To confirm the meeting, the recipient of the notice depresses the key and causes a confirmation notice to be sent to the organizer of the meeting. The note facility also communicates the event confirmation to the scheduling application, which enters the event time, date, and description into the attendee's schedule.
