Abstract

This invention disclosure solves the problem of automating the process of file extraction in the form of defects and levels maintained in a CMVC server to a software development/test machine using WebSphere BI Adapters. Automating the file extraction process minimizes human errors, enhances product quality, provides cost savings and shortens the software product development and maintenance cycle time.

Performing Automated Defect and Level Extract from Configuration Management and Version Control (CMVC) Server Using WebSphere Business Integration (BI) Adapters.

    The core idea of the invention is to implement a WebSphere Business Integration Adapter that establishes application connectivity to the CMVC server application and performs call request processing functionalities and a WebSphere BI Adapter that establishes connection to a CMVC event table database and performs the event polling functionality. An instance of WebSphere BI Adapter configured for event polling, polls the event table containing the events of occurrence in the CMVC server, creates and sends Application-Specific Business Objects (ASBOs) to an integration broker such as IBM WebSphere MQ message broker. An instance of WebSphere BI Adapter configured for call-request processing consumes the ASBOs delivered to the integration broker and performs automated extraction of defect and level file components from the CMVC server using the application connectivity to the CMVC server, the information contained in the delivered ASBOs and the CMVC Application Programming Interface (API) calls for defect and level extraction.

    The figure above provides an architectural overview of the steps involved in the automation of defect and level extract process from a CMVC server to a development/test machine. Implementation consist of an event recorder component (Label 1) that will monitor a known CMVC server for file modification events such as creation of new file components, list of defects created by specific users under specific components and available configuration management levels for a given component and record the information in a data store of CMVC event table.
