Abstract

Periodically, impact printers must be slowed down by printing from home for various diagnostic reasons. Existing printer control units synchronize the set of the Print Latch with the Home Pulse by jumpering signal pins on the logic board together. This function can be accomplished programmably (see figure). All hazardous jumpering would be eliminated with the Programmable Print from Home Diagnostic Function because the Home Pulse 2 would be gated into the set of the Print Latch 3 when the Print from Home Latch is set when the Set Print Control Command 4 and Bit N 5 are active. Another reason for doing this function programmably is that module and card I/O pins become very scarce in various designs, but there are usually unused circuits available which make this function economically attractive.
