Low Specific Gravity Fluid Mask for Jet Plating System

A fluid plating mask having a specific gravity less than that of the electroplating solution is used in a jet plating system. This simplifies the application and associated reclamation processes. A suitable example for the masking fluid is a non-toxic, non-flammable, immiscible (with the plating solution) saturated fluorocarbon liquid.

Thus, the masking fluid superimposed upon the electroplating solution can be provided in the same tank, thereby allowing their application to the workpiece being plated from a common storage tank.

Similarly, the subsequent reclamation of the plating solution from the masking fluid can be done, for example, by liquid/liquid separation or the like, from the excess recovery tank. By way of example, all saturated fluoro/chlorocarbons such as the series of FREON*, DOWTHERM**, and FLUORINET*** materials, may be suitable for such masking fluids.
