Abstract

For guiding the ribbon in a printer, a guide element is provided having a convex contour transverse to the direction of feed. This guide element prevents the ribbon from becoming folded during printing and winding, thus ensuring a uniform print quality and increasing its service life. In the simplest design (Fig. 1), the guide element is shaped as a guide bar 1 with a convex guide face 2, so that the center portion of the ribbon 3, which becomes expanded during printing, is straightened, thus maintaining the full ribbon width. The same effect is obtained by the the design shown in Fig. 2, which provides for a plurality of guide elements 5, arranged in a slot 4, to be individually supported on springs 6. In this case, the contour of the ribbon guide adapts itself to the respective state of the ribbon 3.
