Abstract

A technique is described whereby the use of a deflectable wedge tension device with a tail member acts as a permanent tensioner for tractor belt-type paper drive mechanisms used in various types of document printers. The belt tensioner 10, as shown in Fig. 1, is positioned between outer tractor frame 11 and inner tractor frame 12. It is a single- piece unit designed to be held by two wedge-shaped snap fasteners which squeeze outer frame 11 and inner frame 12 together, against the tensioner, creating an outward force on the tensioner as a result of ramp 13. This creates a permanent secure position for the tensioner and requires no adjustments. Also incorporated into the belt tensioner are two deflection tail members 14, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3.

Deflectable Wedge-Type, Permanent Tractor Belt Tensioner

2 and 3. The tail members 14 act as springs to provide tension on the tractor belt which passes thereover. A belt groove 15 is provided to guide the belt around the tensioner.
