Abstract

A contact-pressure acoustic transducer (CAT) 10, as shown, has a battery of constant voltage Vo, for example, 9 V, which is connected in series with a load resistance RL, for example, 1 KL, and a contact resistance Rc . The contact resistance Rc is due to the controlled contact of a probe 12 (mounted on a support) with a conductive sample 16, for example, aluminum, with a contact pressure. The translation stage 18 to adjust the contact pressure includes a motorized micrometer 20 and a micrometer driver and readout device 22. The CAT 10 includes a switch 24, an ohmmeter 26 and a grounded box 28 for RF shielding.

Contact-Pressure Acoustic Transducer

Acoustic waves 30 in the sample 16 arriving at the probe contact 12 are converted into corresponding voltage variations which can be detected by an electronic device 32 (shown here as corresponding voltage variations on an oscilloscope).
