Abstract

This article describes a new complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) exclusive-OR (XOR) function using a minimum device count. Unlike some other minimum device count configurations, it provides the true XOR function without an inversion stage by utilizing P channel pass gates with N channel pull-down devices. The figure illustrates the new CMOS XOR which performs the XOR function a O+b = ab + a-b Although the output state for the input set at a=b=O will be a O+b > O, subsequent CMOS logic can be designed to resolve it correctly as a O level.
