Abstract

Automatic creation of implicit relationships through attributes aids in later editing chores and reduces operator attention. In creating a footnoted document, body text and footnotes are separately prepared and separately stored. Footnote and footnote reference numbers are system assigned during creation. However, deletion of a reference number does not result in deletion of a footnote. The result in the event of many deletions of reference numbers is a cluttered library of footnotes. A solution to this problem is to cause relationship attributes to be assigned to reference numbers during document creation. Thereafter, when a reference number is deleted, the corresponding footnote will also be deleted.
