Abstract

A hemispherical reflector, used in laser processing and laser welding, allows a more efficient use of laser light in processing and a greater assurance of safety. In laser processing and laser welding, some of the laser light 11 is reflected from the target surface 12. Thus there is unused power, as well as a potential safety hazard from the scattered light. A hemispherical reflector 13 concentric with the laser spot returns the scattered light to the target 12. This device can also assist in controlling any gases released by the laser process. A hinged viewing port can be added to the reflector if it is necessary to observe the laser process.
