Abstract

In the preceding article, there is described a printwheel identification expedient wherein the identification number of the printwheel is marked on the printwheel cartridge in optically readable indicia. The present expedient provides for placing such optical indicia directly on the face of one or more of the petals, as shown in the figure, or, alternatively, along the edges of several of the petals. In this way, the petal may still be used for its printing purposes and yet contain the optical indicia which are to be scanned by suitable optical reading means.
