Abstract

A one-piece flat-cable electrical connector is shown. The connector is a one piece assembly comprising a pair of insulating blocks 1, 2 held together by a flexible hinge member 10. A series of hinged flaps 3 of the same material are provided on block 2. A series of connector pins 4 are molded into connector block 1 in such a manner that the enlarged head-shaped inverted cone contact ends 5 of the connector pins 4 protrude slightly above the surface of block 2. The other ends 6 of connector pins 4, which project from block 2, can be soldered to a printed circuit card 7, for example. Locating pins 8 are provided which are accurately located relative to the array of connector pins 4.

A series of connector pins 4 are molded into connector block 1 in such a manner that the enlarged head-shaped inverted cone contact ends 5 of the connector pins 4 protrude slightly above the surface of block 2. The other ends 6 of connector pins 4, which project from block 2, can be soldered to a printed circuit card 7, for example. Locating pins 8 are provided which are accurately located relative to the array of connector pins 4. The associated cable is provided with an appropriate flat-cable end fitting having an insulating cover with apertures 11 therethrough for exposing recessed lands arranged in a position to contact contact ends 5. A series of locating holes 12 are provided in cable end 9 at the same spacing as locating pins 8. In operation, the end fitting 9 of the cable is accurately positioned on the connector block 1 by means of locating pins 8 and locating holes 12. The connector block 2 is then moved into a position over end fitting 9 of the cable, and locked into position by means of latch member 13 on block 2 and latching slot 14 in block 1.
