Abstract

In an electrophotographic machine, adjustment of the preclean corona current level can improve copy quality by improving the removal of residual toner performed at the cleaning station. An endblock is disclosed for mounting a corona-generating wire at a variable distance from the photoconductor carrying the residual toner. In that manner, the current deposition on the photoconductor can be adjusted to achieve good cleaning. Figs. 1-4 show insulating end blocks 1 and 2 for mounting a corona wire 8 upon which a high voltage is placed. Endblocks 1 and 2 are located in a metal housing (not shown) for unifying the corona structure and providing electrical shielding thereto. Corona wires 8 attach to endblock 1 through spring 5 that hook into a metal support which is held in place by endblock 1.

Endblocks 1 and 2 contain slots 3 and 4 into which the side of insulating inserts 10 are positioned. Insert 10 is square, and if sides A and B are inserted into slots 3 and 4, corona wires 8 are positioned in slots 11 and 12 in wedge 13. If sides C and D are inserted into slots 3 and 4, wedge 13 is parallel to wires 8 and not in contact therewith.
